A Study of Classification of Nursing Diagnosis in Puerperal Unit


Abstract
Nursing diagnosis provide an efficient standard for communication among nurses, importee the quality of nursing care, purpose and direction of nursing and provide a unique dimention to nursing care. This research was done for the improvement of practical appliance of nursing diagnosis and for the elevation of nursing quality level. Nursing students of the fourth grade of D university which is in Chunan cared for postpartum clients who were admitted in puerperal unit. They practiced from March 27, 1995 to May 20, each for 2 weeks. After their practice, they reported on 40 cases which had a total of 234 nursing diagnoses. The data were classified by NANDA accepted nursing diagnoses categorized according to functional health patterns.
The results of this study were as follows
1. The total 234 of nursing diagnoses were confirmed among 40 postpartum clients, and each client had the average 5.9 of nursing diagnoses.
2. The percentage order of diagnoses are ¢¥knowledge deficit¢¥, ¢¥pain¢¥, ¢¥risk for infection¢¥, ¢¥self care deficit¢¥, ¢¥impaired physical mobility¢¥, ¢¥risk for altered parenting¢¥.
3. In the classification according to I functional health patterns, the nursing diagnoses correspondent to activity-exercise pattern was 24%, nutritional and metabolic pattern 20%. health perception-health management pattern 12%, cognitive-perceptual pattern 12%, elimination pattern 8%, self perception-self concept pattern 8%, sleep-rest pattern 4%, coping-stress pattern 4%. On the contrary, there were no sexuality-reproductive pattern and value-belief pattern.
